What is this survey about?
I’ve tried and tried to research better marketing advice for self-published young adult authors (as it relates to social media). I know the general trend of a teenager’s online time but applying this to YA books neglects two major factors:
- Not everyone who reads Young Adult is actually a young adult. I’m obviously included in this observation. A study published a few years ago said that 55% of those who bought YA books were actually 18 or older. So this is definitely a factor that needs to be accounted for in my research!
- Not all teenagers are readers (unfortunately). I don’t want to mix in the social media trends for those who are only interested in fashion, or fitness, or cars. Since my interested marketing area is so narrow, I can’t take “teenager” trends at face value. What if those who are only interested in fashion far outweigh those interested in books? It definitely skews the data I’m interested in.
