Congratulations to Maria M. from the US!
I did it!
Ready the drums! Commence that beautiful drum roll!
I have two signed hardcover copies of Winter by Marissa Meyer!!!!!!
I actually took the day off work last Thursday and spent my precious hours of leave on this. And it was worth it!
So since Orlando was about two hours away from my house, I was actually worried there wouldn’t be anymore “spots” available. I called and got even more worried when the woman couldn’t tell me (rightfully so) about how fast the wristbands were going. I had planned on leaving my house at noon, the event starting at 6, but ended up leaving earlier after that call. I got to Orlando at noon and got my lovely wristband (my hand was itching all day to rip it off for fear of looking like an underage drinker showing off my prior nights clubbing bands).
Anyway, I spent five hours catching up on some writing and trying to read Scarlet and Cress. I finished Scarlet (loved it) and am about halfway through Cress. It was my goal to have read them all by the signing but alas, writing took priority.
Side note with my writing, I’m currently 2000 words behind but that’s okay! I had this planned out in my schedule because of the wedding last weekend. Plus, my deciding to use dictation bit me in the butt for a while, until I figured out my computer’s microphone was atrocious. I purchased a $15 microphone for my dictation and it’s helped tremendously. It’s crazy that such a cheap mic is waay better than my computer’s built in mic. I’m still working at my speed but got up to 2800 WPH yesterday (for a 25 minute writing session).
So after writing, I finally went back to Barnes and Noble 45 minutes before the event and managed to get a good seat.
It was so much fun! Just the excitement everyone had when they spotted her downstairs, and Marissa Meyer squealing to everyone as she stepped in front of us, worth the wait! She’s definitely an awesome person who loves to tell stories. I wanted to record her storytelling but didn’t have a good spot for that even though I was only two rows back. But she told us all about Snow White, the ending of which I had never heard (it involves putting on molten hot iron shoes).
She briefly talked about how sad she was that the Lunar Chronicles journey was over and she cried once she sent off the final copy. Immediately afterward, though, she decided to write a “Lunar Collection” called Stars Above that comes out Feb 2016. Basically she said she’s writing fan fiction for her own stories. Can’t wait for it!
Afterwards she answered a bunch of questions and then the book signing started! I had never actually been to a book signing before *gasp* and wasn’t quite sure what to expect. Each of us had letters on our wristband for whichever “group” we were in. First come first serve, starting with letter A. There were about 30 or so people per letter and I ended up being in group E.
It took about an hour and a half for me to get all the way up to her and then I had to control myself a little bit. She was so friendly, though, and I even got to take a picture with her.
I got all the little goodies in the photo below, and we briefly chatted about NaNoWriMo. For those of you that don’t know, Marissa Meyer is a HUGE supporter of NaNo and actually outlined the first three books in the Lunar Chronicles series during her first NaNo.
Kind of gives you a little more motivation for NaNo, doesn’t it??
So, without further ado…here are the details for the giveaway!
